Action TU1208

Civil Engineering Applications of Ground Penetrating Radar

COST Success Story

TU1208 Training Schools

COST Action TU1208 was  especially active in the organisation of Training Schools. During the 54 months of the Action's lifetime, 15 Training Schools  were offered. Overall, those schools were attended by more than 430 Trainees. In most cases, Trainees could participate without paying a registration fee and many of them received a Grant, which totally or partially covered their travel and accommodation expenses. In this webpage, you can  find the list of Training Schools organised by COST Action TU1208, with links to  webpages (or, in a few cases, to pdf files) where more information about each school is reported.

TU1208 GPR Association is continuing with the organisation of Training Schools. The first school organized by the association was entitled "Ground Penetrating Radar for civil engineering and cultural heritage management" and was held  in Rome, Italy,  on May 14-18, 2018. This school was organised by TU1208 GPR Association, Sapienza University of Rome, University College London, and Associazione Italiana del Georadar, and it was awarded with the European Year of Cultural Heritage label.

On our Training Schools

TU1208 Training Schools aim at widening, broadening and sharing knowledge relevant to  Ground Penetrating Radar technology, methdology and applications,  through the delivery of intensive courses on new and emerging subjects. Our schools always offer the opportunity to familiarise with cutting edge equipment and methods, they  include lectures given both by researchers/professors from academia and experts from industry. Typically, our schools are targeted to PhD Students and Early Career Investigators (although scientists at a more advanced stage of their career and professionals are most welcome, too). TU1208 Training Schools are not intended to provide general training or education.

From April 2013 to October 2017,  COST covered the organisation costs of all our Training Schools, as well as the participation costs of all Trainers and most Trainers  (travel, accommodation and meal expenses). After the Action ended, we decided to continue with the organisation of Training Schools  and to this purpose we use  different funds (e.g., regional, national and international grants for the organization of scientific events).
